CANACONA
Bombarded with several demands and requests from gram sabha members, Agonda Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues informed all decisions cannot be taken by the panchayat alone, but needs support of the government and cooperation of the local MLA.
Members had listed several issues, including lack of streetlights on village main road, speed-breakers at strategic locations, construction of Dumane Culvert, water supply issues, road from Padribhat to Parvem, maintenance and widening of some roads, during the the gram sabha.
Some residents claimed that garbage was being dumped into the river, leading to a pollution problem. “The worst thing is even broken glasses and glass bottle pieces are thrown into the river, making it very dangerous to enter the river’s waters,” complained a gram sabha member.
Responding to all the demands and requests, Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues said, “We would seek governments help as well as the help and cooperation with our MLA Ramesh Tawadkar to fulfil all your demands.”
