MARGAO
The Margao Shigmo Committee 2020 headed by Margao Municipal Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar has decided to go ahead with the Shigmo parade scheduled on Sunday.
Though the government had left it to local Shigmo panels to take a call on holding the parades, Chief Officer Panchwadkar told the media on Saturday that the Margao Shigmo Committee has decided to go ahead with Sunday’s programme since there are no specific directions from the government to cancel the parades.
When asked whether the Margao Shigmo Samiti would suggest any protective measures to be adopted on the day of the parade, Panchwadkar said the people are aware of the steps they are required to take given the coronavirus scare.
Given that the committee has decided to go ahead with the Shigmo parade on Sunday, the entertainment programme (Lavani Taraka), scheduled on Saturday evening at the Ana Fonte garden would go on as scheduled.
Addressing the media in the presence of the municipal engineers, the Chief Officer said the Shigmo float parade will be held on the Colva circle-Lake Plaza route from 3 pm on March 15. “The Suvari will be conducted on Sunday. As part of the ritual, Nama was held at the Pimpalkatta on March 11,” he added.
The Chief Officer said that necessary security arrangements have been put in place as per the directions of the District Collector, South, and the Superintendent of Police. “Surveillance of the float parade will be done on CCTV. All the events will be judged by the experts from the field of Art and Culture,” he said, adding that entries for the parade will be accepted at the spot at the designated counter from 10 am onwards opposite Inox.
Fancy dress entries of senior category will be accepted near the SGPDA market and junior category will be accepted near the main stage.
Cash prizes of Rs six lakhs await the winners of the float parade and other categories.
