Mother spurns daughter’s appeal, girl ends life in Anjuna
MAPUSA: In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old girl from Anjuna committed suicide after her mother reportedly reprimanded her and refused to take her along to Changad where her brother was schooling.
Anjuna Police informed that the mother had left for Changad in Maharashtra early Thursday morning, to fetch her son who is schooling in a Madrassa there, without informing the daughter, Baby Fatima Sarkar.
The daughter’s appeal to accompany her mother was reportedly turned down on the previous day.
The father, who is a daily wage labourer, left for work as usual at around 11 am, police said.
In the meanwhile, the girl reportedly hanged herself from the wooden rafter on the roof of the house.
When the father returned home in the afternoon, he found the girl on the bed apparently fallen there after the dupata gave way, police said.
The girl was rushed to the North Goa District Hosptial, Mapusa, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
PSI Subhash Gaonkar conducted the on site investigation. PI Sanjiv Dalvi (Pernem) and DySP Ramesh Gaonkar (Bicholim) visited the place. The body was sent for post-mortem.
