Hyderabad Police's one of the biggest catch -- the arrest of alleged drug peddler from Anjuna Preetesh Borkar -- could spill the beans on the rampant drug menace in Goa as he allegedly supplies banned substance to 600-odd consumers pan-India.
In an exclusive interview with The Goan, Hyderabad City Police (Telangana) Commissioner C V Anand confirmed that Borkar is an active member of a larger drug cartel.
"He has nearly 600 consumers throughout India, mostly people visiting Goa contact him for drugs," he said.
The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and the Osmania University police arrested Borkar on August 16 while his family reported he was kidnapped from Anjuna.
During his interrogation, Borkar confessed he was in touch with six suppliers namely Tukaram Salgaonkar, Vikas Naik, Ramesh Chouhan, Steve, Edwin Nunes and Sanjay Gowekar.
As the Hyderabad police are preparing a watertight case to prosecute the peddlers, its investigation team stumbled on crucial information that could find Curlies restaurant owner Edwin Nunes in more trouble.
Goa's counterparts are gearing up to take Nunes' custody in connection with the inter-state drug cartel. The beachside restaurant owner is currently being probed for promoting the lethal trade in his property against the backdrop of fledgling politician and content creator Sonali Phogat's death due to a suspected overdose in the controversial shack.
"Edwin Nunes (is) involved in this case and we will execute PT warrant to take him in our custody," Anand said.
Borkar was allegedly found with illegal possession of Ecstasy Pills, LSD Blots and MDMA at Kakatiya Nagar, Habsiguda under the limits of the Osmania University police station in Hyderabad.
His family, however, claimed that Borkar was kidnapped from Goa more than two weeks before he was officially shown arrested and taken to Hyderabad in a private vehicle.
