Expressing concern over the rise in illegal activities involving Nigerians, the villagers of Anjuna-Vagator alleged that some Nigerian women were seen moving around nightclubs and public places during the night and openly patronising clients in the coastal villages.
The villagers also urged Goa Police to take action against such elements who are involved in immoral activities and bring a bad name to the village and the State.
“The Nigerians are involved in the prostitution business after midnight. We have seen several women wooing clients near some popular nightclubs and restaurants. These people are also involved in the illegal drug business. This trend is dangerous for the Goan women and therefore police should take immediate action against them,” said Chandan Mandrekar, a social worker from Assagao.
Mandrekar along with some locals met and handed over a memorandum to Anjuna PI Prashal Desai seeking action against Nigerians who are involved in illegal activities.
Mandrekar said that several Nigerians were entering the country and the State on student visas and many were found to have overstayed without valid visas.
“The locals who offer rooms to Nigerians on rent should immediately complain to police when they learn about their illegal activities,” he said.
He also said that Goa Police have been doing a good job but their work was getting hampered due to lack of staff.
Anjun PI Prashal Desai informed that in the past, police have arrested Nigerians for overstaying and not having valid visas.
“Locals should fill C forms of these foreigners who come on student visas. From the details on the C form, we can verify whether the foreigner has a valid visa or passport. These foreigners often roam with copies of visas/passports of other foreigners claiming as theirs. The locals and hotel owners should be careful when they offer rooms on rent and should check if they have all the documents,” Desai said.
