The order issued by DIG Bhairon Singh Gurja has placed Sinari under suspension with immediate effect pending disciplinary proceedings against him. Sinari has been asked to report to the Goa Reserve Police at Altinho.
While the suspension order does not spell out any reasons for the suspension, it is believed that the failure to shut the stubborn late night parties along the Anjuna beach and enforce the 11pm shut off time is believed to be among the reasons for the suspension.
On Monday, the Excise Department had announced the suspension of 77 excise licences for violating the conditions of the Model Code of Conduct and the 11pm shut off time one among which was that of the Shiva Valley establishment in Anjuna.
There were several complaints that the parties along the beach belt were going on unabated despite the code of conduct being in force.
Confirming the development, the Chief Electoral Officer for Goa, Kunal said that the action was warranted after the model code of conduct was violated.
“After the implementation of the ECI guidelines, the police were told to go strict on establishments violating the code,” Kunal said.
