Terming the announcement of Rs 140 crore works by the MLA Joshua D’Souza as an election gimmick, the Mapusa Congress on Tuesday said the voters of Mapusa will never get carried away with such promises that were made when the election was at the doorstep.
According to the Mapusa Block Congress Committee President, Shashank Narvekar, the BJP has the habit of making promises but never fulfilling them. “The BJP has been making the mention of the construction of Tar Bridge and underground power cabling projects in every manifesto during the elections. This shows what has been done by the BJP in Mapusa in the last 5, 10 or 20 years,” Narvekar said.
He said if the government has not made any budgetary provision for the works then those works will never be taken up.
The Mapusa Block Congress Committee chief was addressing the media along with Congress leader Sudhir Kandolkar and Mapusa councilors Komal D’Souza, Anvi Korgaonkar and Dr Nutan Bicholkar.
Speaking further, Narvekar challenged the BJP to show one good project that has been completed and was being used by the people of Mapusa.
Congress leader and former chairperson Sudhir Kandolkar said that the announcement of works was done with elections in mind.
He said the biggest issue in Mapusa was lack of parking and the local MLA has failed to put his mind on it.
He also pointed out that the town faced the problem of high water table and therefore the commencement of the sewerage project was of utmost importance.
“The local MLA must ensure that individual connections are given to the sewerage line so that the sewerage treatment plant is made operational. Over eight years have passed and nothing has been done to expedite the operation of the sewerage project,” Kandolkar said.
He said along with Tar Bridge, cleanliness and beautification of Tar river should also be taken up on top priority as the place has been used for Ganesh visarjan.
Slamming the MLA for failing to construct a Ravindra Bhavan in Mapusa, Kandolkar said the project can be shifted to some other place so that the work on the project can get going.
According to councilor Komal D’Souza, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza has failed to carry out any development work in Mapusa.
“The MLA has been a total failure,” D’Souza alleged and predicted that he will not get elected in Mapusa again.
