“It’s bad luck all the way, hopefully some positive things will emerge. Praying to the almighty and urge our fans to pray for us,” Donald added.
An element of bad luck seems to be following the Coelho siblings Dayne and Katya at the ongoing Asian Games Mixed Team sailing event as they suffered yet another setback on the second day of the competition.
The two who finished seventh overall at the end of the two races on the first day had a bad day at sea. The two fared badly in their respective races in the first race of the day, finishing 8th. Dayne, however, picked up in the second race of the day to finish fifth.
But the sailors suffered a big disappointment during the second race when Katya encountered equipment failure leading to an injury.
“Katya faced a big disappointment on the second race of the day,” informed
coach-cum-father Donald. “The universal joint that connects the board and the sail broke with the wind gusting around 15 knots. She slipped and her leg got entangled in the foot strap leading to a fall and injury. She had to be rescued and brought to the shore and could not participate in the third race,” he added.
Donald informed that she is now under medication.
Meanwhile, Chinese windsurfers lead in the event with Hong Kong, Indonesia and Malaysia in close pursuit. Three more races take place today, while Monday is a rest day.
