The Margao Municipal Council resumed its anti-encroachment drive in the commercial capital on Tuesday, with Municipal workers confiscating furniture items worth around a lakh of rupees.

This is the first major anti-encroachment drive carried out by the civic body this year. Municipal workers seized the furniture items and transported them to the civic body.

Municipal officials have put the value of the seized items to around Rs 1 lakh. Civic officials pointed out that the anti-encroachment drive will continue in the city in the next few days.

OLD GOA: The Chimbel Garbage Management Committee has suggested a garbage sentinel scheme, along the lines of traffic sentinel scheme, to deal with black spots in the village. The suggestion was made at the garbage committee meeting on Tuesday, against the backdrop of the High Court directing panchayats to clear black spots in its jurisdictions. “Just like traffic sentinels, garbage sentinels too could be rewarded for reporting persons dumping garbage in the open,” suggested…
