Antonio elected Raia sarpanch

MARGAO: Luis Quadros is the new sarpanch of Raia “ the fourth sarpanch in this current term so far.
In the elections held on Monday, Luis defeated Antonio Xavier Fernandes by 6-5 votes to make it to the hot seat.
Presiding officer, Allaudin Maniyar had initially received three nomination papers for the vacant post. The contest narrowed down to Luis and Xavier after outgoing sarpanch Isidore Rodrigues withdrew his nomination.
After his election, Luis told the media that he would accord top priority to usher in the development of the village. “With four years of the present term almost over and with just one year remaining, I want to take up developmental projects in the village with the help and assistance of the government. The new body will take up roads and drainages with government help," he said.
With the election of Luis as the new sarpanch, Raia Panchayat has the distinction of having four sarpanchas during the current term. Besides Luis, Rumaldo Gonsalves, Xavier Fernandes and Isidore Rodrigues were the other three panch members who had made it to the hot seat so far this term.
