Crowds thronged the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday to file applications for allotment of stalls at the annual Ashtami fair along the Mandovi River Promenade.
Vendors queued up since early morning and the CCP authorities were assisted by the Panaji police in maintaining order.
Officials said over 400 stalls are expected to be erected along the river promenade stretching from the Panaji-Betim ferry wharf right up to the Kala Academy-Forest Department area in Campal.
The fair is expected to begin from the middle of next week and stretch up to the end of the first week of September, an official said.
The CCP charges a daily fee per square meter for stalls and additionally a lump sum service charge is levied to handle waste disposal and general sanitation during the fair.
Last year the Asthami fair had made the capital city's civic body richer by Rs 1.05 crore, the gross revenue it had netted, marginally higher than what was collected by its counterpart in Mormugao for Saptah.
