Apprehensions over land filling for Western bypass

MARGAO
The Western bypass issue figured at the Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday with some people raising apprehensions that the huge land filling will divide the village into two and suggested construction of flyovers wherever required.
Sarpanch Prudencio Carneiro explained to the gram sabha members the correspondence made to the local MLA and Minister Avertano Furtado, the PWD and other authorities regarding the rehabilitation of the residents, whose households come within the bypass alignment.
After the meeting, Prudencio told the media that some residents had come for the meeting seeking to know the fate of two households coming within the alignment. “I have told the members that the issue has been brought to the notice of the local minister and other authorities,” Prudencio said. Former Sarpanch Duarte Pires told the media that people of Telaulim want the construction of the bypass on stilts, fearing an earthen embankment will divide the village into two halves.
Meanwhile, gram sabha members have set March 30 as the deadline to complete repairs and illuminate the Telaulim-Varca bridge.
