3-day GU music symposium in Panjim begins today
Musicians, academics to debate, discuss trends in sacred music

The Ketevan World Sacred Music Festival in collaboration with the Goa University has jointly organized a three-day, lecture series about the development of sacred music across the world and in India. Eminent musicians and scholars from across the world will present their views at this three-day event which will take place at the Central Library in Panjim between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm from Tuesday. The sessions are open to all.
On February 18, a lecture on Western music in India/Goa by Santiago Lusardi Girelli, will be followed by a conference: Epic Poem on the life of Jesus: Christa Purana by Fr Glen D´Silva. This will be followed by a talk on piano music in Mumbai by Hannah Marsden, Royal Holloway University, London. 'For the people and of the people? A symphony orchestra in Bombay,' a talk by by Marialena Fernandes, University of Vienna, Austria, will follow. A Round Table discussion on Goan sacred traditions and world music traditions will end the symposium.
he topic discussed will be Western music in India/Goa, by Maestro Santiago Lusardi Girelli, University of Goa, Western Music Chair. The other topic will be Goan Sacred Vocal Music at Seminaries by Sebanti Chatterjee, University of Delhi, Delhi School of Economics. A conference on Goan and Mando music will also be held by Susana Sardo, University of Averio, Portugal.
A Round Table discussion will feature Syncretic musical movements.
On February 17, the topic will be Indian and world music, syncretic movement by Maestro Santiago Lusardi Girelli. Paolo Pacciolla, Vicenza Conservatory, Italy, will speak on Indian music and a documentary by Goa University on Anthony Gonsalves will be screened. Jewish and Sephardic music by Daniel Parejo, University of Seville, Spain will also feature.
A Round Table discussion will feature Syncretic musical movements.
