Apprenticeship certificate must for future govt jobs

PANAJI

While attempting to enhance employment opportunities and bridge the gap between education and jobs among youngsters, the government is actively considering making apprenticeship experience certificates compulsory to avail of government jobs.

At a press conference on Saturday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasised the significance of the Apprenticeship Training Scheme claiming it will be a game-changer for job seekers.

“This training, either in the government or private sector, shall be treated as experience while applying for jobs in government departments. The trainees will be given experience certificates. We might make it compulsory (to produce this certificate at the time of filling vacancies in the government service) in the future. Government is working on it,” he said.

The apprenticeship programme, for one year, will provide youth with hands-on training.

While the CM encouraged youth to take up the opportunity of apprenticeship, he also urged youth wishing to undergo training in government establishments to register on the National Apprenticeship Portal. The opportunity is on a first come first serve basis.

Whether undergoing training in the government or private sector, the trainee will be handed over certificates issued by the Ministry.

Sawant said the programme, which begins this year, is expected to significantly reduce unemployment rates and also help sectors get skilled manpower, which otherwise is a challenge.

In the private sector, the trainee can be roped in as a full-time employee based on his/her performance during the training period or depending on the respective company’s decision.

The State government just recently approved a policy titled ‘Goa Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Policy for Government Establishment “ 2023’ to increase the employability of the youth and encourage the participation of the government and private sector establishments in line with the Apprenticeship Training Scheme for those youth who have 15 years residence in Goa.

For those undergoing training in the government/ autonomous bodies/ public sector undertaking will be paid stipend through scholarship/ stipend head which will be opened across through the Finance Department. The registration of all the departments along with opportunities available has been uploaded on its official website from June 23.

The government claimed that as per policy guidelines, the selection of trainees by government establishments shall be on a first come first serve basis subject to proximity of residence and other relevant factors to be decided by respective departments.
