Barely two years after passing her SSC with ATKT, Deeplaxmi Velip secured 75.83 percent to stand first in the first-ever batch of HSSC (Arts) at Shri Balram Higher Secondary School, Ardhafond-Poinguinim.

The higher secondary school secured a pass percentage of 86.87 percent in the HSSC examination results which were declared on Thursday.

Of the 30 students of the first batch of Balram HSS, 26 were declared successful. Eight students secured first class, while 16 got second class and one in the pass class.

Deeplaxmi Velip had passed her SSC two years ago with ATKT, but improved her performance in leaps and bounds to secure 75.83 percent and stand first in the institute.

The jubilant management consisting of Balram HSS patron Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, manager Savita Tawadkar and acting Principal Kamlakhar Mhalshi addressed a news conference late Thursday evening and also felicitated the students and teachers.

According to Savita Balram HSS was started two years ago with single Arts stream with almost all the students who were given admissions passing their SSC with ATKT and very low pass marks.

“These students were not given admission anywhere, until we started this higher secondary,” said Tawadkar.

Mhalshi said the same year (last year) most students had to appear in October examination to clear SSC and were trained thoroughly with additional classes to prepare for HSSC examination.

According to the sports minister, parents had met them to request a new higher secondary so that their children could get admission and be able to pursue their education.

“This is because, no other higher secondary was admitting their children as they had passed with ATKT or with very poor pass percentage,” said Ramesh Tawadkar.

He also felicitated Deeplaximi Velip for securing a distinction in her HSSC exams.

This Arts batch is the first batch from Balram HSS and from next year, the Commerce batch will also answer the board exams.

Meanwhile, Vandita Kamat scored a distinction and topped the Science stream, while Pragati Phaldesai topped in Commerce stream at S S Angle HSS, Maxem. The stream-wise pass percentage was Science (89.47%), Commerce (82.35%) and Arts (88.15%).

The stream-wise pass percentage at Government HSS, Mastimoll was Science (93%), Commerce (97%), Arts (92%) and Vocational (86%).
