Artistes up clamour for Kala Bhavan in Pernem taluka

With the artistes facing inconvenience to showcase their art in the absence of proper hall in Pernem taluka, the artistes have renewed their demand with the State government for a Kala Bhavan in the taluka.

PERNEM

After formation of new government in the State, the artistes renewed their demand stating that they should get a platform by building a Kala Bhavan in Pernem taluka.
When contacted, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude said if there is a demand for Kala Bhavan in Pernem taluka, he would take up the work on priority basis.
“If an artiste from a village or taluka gets a platform at Kala Bhavan, it will give a boost to his talent. So far, there is no demand for a Kala Bhavan in Pernem taluka and if people demand, the work of Kala Bhavan will be given priority,” Gaude said.
When contacted, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte said he would try to build Kala Bhavan in Mandrem constituency. “I will take up the issue with the government during the assembly session,” he said.
“There are hundreds of artistes including women, youth and senior citizens in Pernem taluka, but they face inconvenience as they do not have a platform to showcase their art in the taluka,” he added.
Actress, Suchita Shirodkar said artistes from Pernem taluka have to go to cities to perform or learn art, which is time consuming. “If Pernem taluka gets a Kala Bhavan, then artistes will get a chance to learn in the taluka and it will save their time. New artistes will be introduced and art in the taluka would get a boost,” she added.
Shirodkar appealed to Minister Gaude to give priority to Kala Bhavan in Pernem taluka.
A singer from Morjim, Rajesh Purkhe said artistes face a lot of inconvenience as there is no Kala Bhavan in the taluka. “Over 40 percent of the dance artistes go to cities to learn or perform. If an artiste here gets an independent platform with a proper hall and stage, events like plays and music festival can be organised in the taluka,” he added.
