Electronic and other items worth over Rs 10 lakh were burgled from at least three rooms in a resort at Ashvem-Mandrem, while guests were busy celebrating the New Year.
According to reports, the incident occurred between 9.45 pm on December 31 and 1.30 am on January 1.
The burglars entered a room of an Indian tourist by breaking open the latch of the back door and stole two Apple laptops, an iPhone X mobile, a watch and cash of Rs 8.5 lakh, all worth Rs 10 lakh.
The burglars then broke into another room occupied by a Russian national, also by breaking the latch on the back door and stole a Lenovo tablet, 5,000 Russian Rubles (Rs 5,696) and other items, all worth Rs 68,000.
Meanwhile, in a statement, an official of a company said the hotel realised the burglary at 1.15 am when the first guest returned to the room.
He stated that burglars had decamped with goods worth Rs 6 lakh from his room and claimed that five other rooms in that section of the resort were also burgled.
"The hotel's response to this entire incident is pathetic to say the least. No remorse or attempt to make good any of the losses and damaged faced by us," claimed the company official.
Police sources said CCTVs were installed in the resort, but were not functioning at the time of the burglaries.
Pernem Police registered an offence against unidentified persons under Sections 457 and 380 PC.
PSI Anand Gaonkar is investigating the case.
