MARGAO
Waste water overflowing on the busy Margao police station road junction on Friday, has been posing health hazard to the hundreds of pedestrians and vendors sitting along the road side.
Sadly, not a single authority, neither the Margao Municipal Council nor any of the public departments designated to tackle overflow sewage, has intervened till date, with the nuisance being allowed to continue right under the nose of these authorities.
While the waste water was first spotted a day ago, the flow has only increased in the last 24 hours, with no authority stepping in to direct the housing society to stop the flow.
When The Goan called up Viraj Arabekar, Margao Municipal Sanitary Inspector, to shed light on the nature of water overflowing on the city road near the police station, he feigned ignorance, saying he is now in-charge of the Sonsodo waste dump yard. Arabekar’s colleague in the civic body, Sanjay Sanguelkar, however, was not available for comment. And, neither was MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai available to shed light on the delay in stopping the waste water flow onto the roads.
Police officials pointed out that pedestrians, including school students, parents and vendors are forced to walk through the waste water, unmindful of the fact that the overflowing water is not emanating from a broken water pipeline, but waste water.
