Residents of Colmorod ward of Margao Municipal Council hit the streets on Saturday evening to protest against the bad condition of the Navelim Church-Margao railway station road passing through their locality.

The residents maintained that while Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had promised to give them relief by taking up the road repair when he visited the area last month, nothing much has changed on the ground reality till date.

The residents claimed the PWD just took up random patch work of the pot holes, which hardly gave the citizens any relief.

On the contrary, they pointed out that the craters and potholes have turned the road unmotorable.

A resident Nevin Gomes said the residents of Colmorod find themselves caught in a cross fire between the local MLA and the ward councillors over the years.

“The residents have been hit by the politics between the two sides. What the residents have been asking is only a motorable and safe road,” Nevin said, while demanding a ban on the plying of heavy duty trucks on the road.

He pointed out that the residents have been left with no option but to come on the streets as their plea for restoration of the road has fallen on deaf ears.

A resident Linda Rodrigues and ward councillor Jaffar Budhani echoed similar sentiments and demanded the early restoration of the

damaged road.
