Hind Deep Walia, a bank officer at CanaraBank, surrendered himself before the Agassaim police on Wednesday, a day afteran FIR was registered against him for misappropriating a sum of Rs 35 lakh. Thefunds were entrusted for ATM handling but are suspected to have been used forcasino gambling.
Walia, a native of Punjab, is charged under IPC Section 408 for criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant. The casewas registered after a complaint was filed by an official from the regionaloffice in Panaji.
The alleged misappropriation occurredbetween January 2 and March 4, 2024. Authorities had been on the lookout forWalia since Tuesday before he turned himself in.
