The incident occurred at around 3.10 am on Thursday after many parts of Salcete were lashed by heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. As a result supply to 14 transformer centres located on this feeder catering to 1000 consumers was totally hampered. Departmental staff swung into action and carried out the work on war footing and in 30 minutes all other power supply to all the transformers leaving aside the one on which the tree had fallen were restored.
Executive engineer Devdassam told the media that the department staff and officers worked overtime to restore the power supply to Rachol village by 6 pm.
“The officers and staff members put in hard work to ensure that the two day’s work was completed in a day,” he said, while complimenting his staff and officers.
Meanwhile, rain water entered a godown storing air conditioners at Aquem following heavy showers Wednesday night. The owner Sidharth Mehta claimed that the water entered the godown due to a clogged drain.
