Outgoing Sarpanchas, Eknath Oraskar (Saligao), Mahima Korgonkar (Arpora-Nagao), Mohan Dhabale (Verla-Canca), Parvati Gawas (Nadora), Amarnath Govekar (Pilerne-Marra), Gauravi Madgaonkar (Ucassaim-Paliem-Punola), Reshma Kalangutkar (Calangute), Rama Parab (Oxel), and Alba Sequeira (Siolim-Marna) all lost to new comers. In fact, a senior member and Sarpanch for more than 20 years, Rama Parab lost to a political novice, Surath Vernekar in Oxel.
In many areas people gave thumbs down to family raj politics by electing either the husband or the wife.
Saligao Sarpanch Eknath Oraskar lost narrowly by a margin of six votes but his wife Kalpana Oraskar won.
Similarly, Assagao, Acting Sarpanch, Victor D`Souza lost but his wife Josephine D`Souza was elected. In Candolim, Lourence Fernandes lost but his wife, Perpetua Fernandes pulled through while in Nerul among the husband-wife contestants, wife, Piedade Almeida won but her husband, Narcisco Almeida lost.
Again, Nerul Sarpanch, Shashikala Govekar won but her son, Sudesh Govekar lost.
Three close aids of former water resource minister, Dayanand Mandrekar “ Oxel Sarpanch, Rama Parab, Verla Canca, sarpanch, Mohan Dhabale and Assagao, acting sarpanch, Victor D’Souza “ lost in the elections.
Former Calangute sarpanch, Joseph Sequiera also bit the dust after he and his panel lost to panels backed by local MLA, Michael Lobo.
In Aldona BJP MLA, Glen Ticlo`s supporters did well in Pomburpa-Olaulim panchayat but received mixed response in Aldona, Nachinola and Moira.
Similarly, in Tivim, Congress MLA Nilkant Halarnakar`s supporters gained upper hand in Tivim while in Colvale he suffered reverses.
In other panchayats like Assonora, Pirna, Camaurlim and Revora it was mixed response.
