MARGAO: The battle for supremacy over the basties and slums dotting Margao constituency continued unabated in the commercial capital.
Hours before the curtains came down on the poll campaign on Friday, and days after arch rival, Deputy Chief Minister, Manohar Ajgaonkar descended on Moti Dongor to storm the Congress, while Opposition leader Digambar Kamat made his presence felt at the migrant-inhabited areas near Cine Lata and Gandhi market on Saturday morning.
In fact, this is the second time during the ongoing poll campaign that Kamat has made his presence felt near Cine Lata and Gandhi market.
He had already covered these areas in round one of his campaign, and the fact that he has come back in the areas suggests that the seven-time Margao MLA is leaving nothing to chance this time around.
The migrant pockets have traditionally rallied behind Kamat in every election, leaving the BJP high and dry. However, for the first time in recent elections, the BJP has fielded Ajgaonkar, who has his own influence in the basties near Cine Lata to Babu Nagar and Gandhi market.
In fact, political observers are trying to figure out how the migrant vote will react this time round, given that the BJP and its candidate, Ajgaonkar has not left a single stone unturned to woo and wean away this section of the electorate on his side.
