SMC Chief Officer Pramod Dessai has said the council was yet to get three traffic policemen to manage traffic and parking in the town.
SMC had identified ‘No Parking’ area in Sanguem town two years ago and the local MLA had inaugurated the ‘No Parking zone’ in the town to solve the congested parking, but the efforts seem to have gone down the drain. There has been no strict following of the sign boards, which have merely become showpieces.
For motorists in Sanguem town, it is a constant struggle to negotiate traffic and find parking space in the area. Vehicles have been found
parked haphazardly without following traffic signboards.
When contacted, SMC Chief Officer Pramod Dessai admitted that the parking system is in complete shambles and said that motorists park their vehicles wherever they want.
Speaking on signboards, Dessai said the signboards were sponsored by a private bank.
“The SMC had convened a joint meeting between councillors, traffic officials from Curchorem and Quepem and had discussed the issue. We had demanded three traffic police to manage parking and traffic in Sanguem, but till date we have not got any reply from authorities concerned,” said Dessai.
He added that the council decided decision to shift the weekly bazaar from roadside to interior area of the town in order to avoid any accidents and to solve traffic congestion in the town.
Dessai said the council may take a decision to put barricades at three locations on Bazaar day to prohibit vehicle from entering and to
avoid accidents.
