VASCO
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday afternoon carried out a joint inspection with GSUDA and Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) officials regarding a project for the beautification of Swatantra Path and FL Gomes Road in Vasco.
After the inspection Salkar told reporters that the project, which could be estimated to the tune of approximately Rs 25 crore, would include footpaths, drainage, illumination, landscaping and beautification in entirety.
"Both these roads are the busiest but are in a bad condition for the last so many years and I want to revamp and beautify both these roads simultaneously through this project where we will improve the roads, clear the drainage, have thicker drainage slabs, improve parking, underground cabling of wires, illumination and uniform planting of trees on either side of the road which may be flower or fruit bearing. We will take this project and underground cabling at the same time so that the roads do not have to be dug after the beautification project is taken up," said Salkar.
"GSUDA has already sent their engineers on a preliminary visit and they may have a meeting next week to appoint a consultant for this project, which is a package where in we may not have to look at both these roads for the next 20 years. We will get more details in the next six months and people from Vasco are also welcome to offer their suggestions for this project,” he added.

Three projects in pipeline: Salkar
VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday said three long-pending projects were already in the pipeline and could soon see the light of day.
"The long-pending Baina Powerhouse Project is in the final stage of approval, the fish market project is already being carried out and the Chief Officer’s bungalow project is only awaiting the Naval NOC. Besides clearing these projects, Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane also approved the City Beautification project," said Salkar.
MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues said the foundation stone would be laid for the new fish market, while the work on the Chief Officer’s bungalow will start as the PDA-approved plan has been sent to the Navy for the NOC.
“The long-pending Baina Power House project will be approved in two months and we will also get a few more vehicles for the MMC in two months,” said Rodrigues.
