Belagavi police seize Goa liquor worth Rs 12 lakh, one arrested

Intensifying their campaign against bootleggers in Belagavi and illicit liquor ahead of the forthcoming by-elections to Belagavi parliamentary constituency, Belagavi police have sized another huge stock of liquor on a second consecutive day.

Close on the heels of seizing liquor worth Rs 12 lakh on Tuesday, Belagavi police together with the excise officials seized about 436 whisky and rum bottles of Goa liquor worth Rs 12 lakh from a house at Bahaddarwadi village along the Belagavi-Chorla road. One person has been arrested in this connection.
Acting on specific information, a team of Belagavi Rural PS and excise officials carried out raids on the house of Laxman alias Balu Sateri Patil (50) of Bahaddarwadi village in Belagavi taluka. About 436 bottles of whisky and rum of different brands have been seized along with two mobile sets.
The cost of the liquor has been estimated at around Rs 2 lakh as per Goa rates, but the amount rises sharply when it comes to Karnataka rates. A case has been registered at the Belagavi Rural police station.
