Residents of Belle-Pale along with Velsao-Pale-Issorcim Sarpanch Henriques D’Mello, Deputy Sarpanch Sylvia D’Souza and Panchayat Secretary Vidhur Fadte on Tuesday conducted a joint inspection, following complaints that sewage of a housing complex at Zuarinagar was being discharged into the fields.
According to locals, sewage let out by the housing complex was continuously flowing into the fields of Belle Pale area, which is below Zuarinagar.
Villagers had earlier informed local Panch Santan Lucas that sewage of the complex was flowing into their Belle ward, posing a health hazard to residents in the vicinity.
Lucas then contacted the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch and accordingly, an inspection was conducted and the panchayat body verified that the sewage had formed a huge pool in the area at Belle.
Villagers complained that the sewage had also entered the fields and had destroyed the crops, while the site had also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
When contacted, Dy Sarpanch Sylvia D’Souza said the villagers have decided to write to the chairman of the housing society to take preventive measures so that sewage water is not let out in the open.
“ We conducted a joint inspection and noticed that sewage is flowing continuously from the housing complex. This sewage is also entering the fields,” said D’Souza.
