The group of residents and NGOs opposing the proposed IT Park at Chimbel have alleged that the Sarpanch has fraudulently claimed that 90 per cent of Chimbel’s residents have supported the IT Park and that the resolution was passed in favour of the project.
They claimed that such a resolution was never passed at the gram sabha held on Sunday.
“The claim of the Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar is false,” alleged Gurudas Shirodkar President of the Chimbel Gram Sevak Kala ani Sanskrutik Manch, at a press conference held
on Monday.
He said, that no business of the gram sabha had actually been conducted on Sunday as it was postponed due to the chaos in the
congested hall.
He said, members raised objection about the inadequate space in the hall and proposed to the Sarpanch that the gram sabha be
postponed and conducted in an open space where all members can be accommodated.
Shirodkar also alleged that some people who were present during the gram sabha to support the project were paid Rs 500 per head to attend and shout slogans in support of the IT Park and also disrupt the proceedings.
“Three days prior to the gram sabha the Sarpanch and his cronies were seen distributing money openly in the village, especially in Indira Nagar,” Shirodkar alleged.
He informed the media that on Sunday a complaint was also filed against the peon of Chimbel panchayat at the Old Goa police station after he misbehaved with villagers.
The villagers also disputed the claim of the government that the IT park will give jobs to locals.
“Government should come out openly with the list of Goans who have been given jobs in private industries. First have a policy of 70 percent reservation for locals in industries and then boast about giving jobs to locals in IT industry,” said another youth from Chimbel.
