PANAJI: The result of the Panaji election is definitely not a setback and in fact was better than what was expected, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told media persons.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a government function, the Chief Minister said that the BJP was able to retain its seats despite the ‘weakness’ of not having Manohar Parrikar to campaign in the elections.
“The BJP has never had a majority in the CCP. The impression was that the local MLA was young and that his effort would fall short. Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar too wasn’t able to campaign given his busy schedule and despite this we have been able to retain the seats. Not just that we have got one more seat than last time and have increased our vote margin by a significant proportion,” Parsekar said.
“The gap between the BJP and Babush has shortened,” Parsekar said.
“We have even been able to make inroads in Taleigao in places where earlier we had no seats,” Parsekar said. The Chief Minister also said that the CCP elections were not related to performance of his government.
