Citing security threats to oil installations across the country, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has requested the Vasco police to arrange additional security measures around the terminal.
In a letter, the IOC has also requested Vasco police to conduct regular rounds around the installation during late night hours.
The letter added that the company personnel has noticed parking of heavy vehicles outside the boundary wall of the terminal and has requested the traffic cell to stop the parking of these vehicles.
When contacted, Vasco PI Sagar Ikoskar confirmed having received the letter and said the matter is under consideration.
“We regularly conduct night patrolling and also keep a strict vigil in the port town,” said PI Ikoskar.
“While we do our duty, the company should also have its security personnel in place to avoid any adversaries. The company should not leave everything to the police as we have other responsibilities. The company should have its night security personnel manning the terminal, even from the outside,” PI Ikoskar said.
“In this regard, I will write to the company and will provide all possible police assistance, for the safety of the terminal,” he added.
When contacted, Vasco Traffic Police Inspector Sudesh Narvekar stated that the traffic police issue challans to vehicles found parked outside the boundary wall of the terminal.
Asked if he would stop the parking of vehicles as it is a no-parking zone, PI Narvekar declined to comment.
Sources in the company pointed to unmanned watch towers of the two oil companies and stated the company should first put its safety measures in place, before going to the police for assistance.
“The company itself allows parking of tankers near the entry gate and the security is manned by a private party, instead of the CISF agency,” the source said.
