With the Director General of Police, Muktesh Chander taking serious cognisance of the police brutality at Betul, DIG Parmaaditya made his presence felt at the Cuncolim police station on Tuesday to get a first hand report of the incident.
The DIG’s presence at the Cuncolim police station assumes significance as it has come coinciding with the commencement of the inquiry by Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Raju Raut Desai on Tuesday.
Sources at the Cuncolim police station informed that the DIG met the victim Clint Rebello and other witnesses connected with the incident. He is also believed to have discussed the matter with the policemen attached to the Cuncolim police station.
That the DIG was holed up at the Cuncolim police station for over two hours indicates that the police department has taken cognisance of the claims of police brutality on the youngster by the men-in-uniform at Betul on Sunday night.
In the meantime, inquiry officer, DySP Raju Raut Desai has started his inquiry into the incident on Tuesday evening. Sources said the inquiry
officer has recorded the statements of the victim as well as the witnesses in the incident. The inquiry which is believed to have started on Tuesday evening is expected to be completed later tonight before the DySP submits his report to the district police chief, SP Arvind Gawas for submission to the DGP’s office.
The district police Chief, SP Arvind Gawas has said that DySP Raju Raut Desai is expected to complete the inquiry by Wednesday before the same is forwarded to the DGP’s office for further action.
To a question, he said the police has already registered a case under section 353 of the IPC against the victim Clint Rebello, adding that the Cuncolim police has till date received no complaint from the victim against any of the policemen involved in the incident.
