Bhatagram festival held in Bicholim
BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has claimed that festivals like Bhatagram help preserve Indian culture which faces a threat due to development of rural areas into cities.
He was addressing the inaugural function of the 7th three-day Bhatagram festival in the premises of Shetye Udhyan at Bicholim on Friday.
Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal and BMC Chairperson Rajaram Gaonkar were present.
Responding to a demand by Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal for a 'Kala Bhavan' in Bicholim, Parsekar said: “The government will choose an area feasible for this project and accordingly, Bicholim, Bardez and Pernem talukas will be taken into consideration.” Dayanand Mandrekar assured that his department would support programmes like Bhatagram festival which are based on Indian culture.
“The Lokotsav at Panaji, cultural festival at Canacona and Bhatagram festival in Bicholim are among the major festivals in the State,” Mandrekar said.
Satish Gaonkar also called upon Bicholim MLA Sawal to cooperate with the council in eradicating plastic waste from the town.
15 artistes from Bicholim taluka were felicitated by Parsekar and Mandrekar for their services in the field of art and culture.
