Land for North Goa ESI hospital being finalised

PANAJI: Years after news of a possible ESI Hospital in North Goa was doing the rounds, the ESI Corporation has confirmed that the state government is in the process of finalizing around five acres of land for the project.
Meanwhile, the South Goa ESI Hospital in Margao is yet to be upgraded to a 100-bedded hospital.
Speaking at a press meet Regional Director, ESIC, C V Joshi, said the hospital was still acquiring medical equipment. “The plan is to make it a 100-bedded hospital. While most of the work has been completed, GSIDC which is working on the project is yet to acquire certain medical equipment. This is expected in the next couple of months,” he said.
As part of the corporation’s ESIC 2.0 reform agenda, ESI dispensaries around the country will be upgraded with pathological and diagnostic services.
In Goa, ESI dispensaries at Corlim, Kundaim, Mapusa and Sancoale were identified for upgradation. The North Goa hospital was planned at Porvorim, though the director said the exact place was yet to be announced by the state government.
