Goa’s eminent citizens will celebrate the birth centenary of the late Bhikoo Pai Angle, a respected educationist, actor, theatre director, writer, and sportsperson from Margao.
Following the initial event on October 26, a second celebration is scheduled for November 12 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, where veteran artist and Padma Shri awardee Nayana Apte will be honoured by industrialist and Fomento Group Chairman, Auduth Timblo.
The programme will begin at 3.15 pm with a presentation on Nayana Apte’s life by Digesh Pai Angle and an introduction by artist Rajiv Shinkre, followed by the felicitation.
Afterwards, the stage performance will feature the first act (‘Ank’) of ‘Sangeet Matsyagandha’, a play in which Apte famously portrayed ‘Satyavati.’ She acted under Bhikoobab’s direction in this role, reflecting their close professional connection.
The cast includes Dr Venkatesh Hegde (Parashar), Chandu Kano (Chandol), Hemant Angle (Dheevar), Kapil Nayak (Bheeshma), and Yogan Kossame (Priyadarshan), with Chandu Kano as director.
Following the play, several other artists who worked with Bhikoobab will perform ‘Natya Sangeet’, the traditional musical form from plays he directed.
Prutha Kuncolienkar and Yoguish Sambari will present selections from his works, while Dr Pradeep Borkar and Rutuja Raikar will restage ‘Tujha Tu Vadhvi Raja’, a children’s skit originally directed by Bhikoobab in 2001.
The celebration will close with a scene from ‘Raigadh’, Bhikoobab’s last stage performance in 2016, featuring Ashvek Shanbhag and Nayana Apte.
Pradip Shilkar will accompany on organ, and Shailesh Gaonkar will provide tabla accompaniment during ‘Natya Sangeet’.
