OLD GOA
Stating that the Bhomkars were peacefully protesting over the road-widening issue, the lawyer Adv Surel Tilve representing the 22 Bhomkars has informed that the notices by Ponda SDM will be challenged.
Speaking to The Goan after the Bhomkars appeared before the Ponda SDM on Monday, Adv Tilve informed that every citizen is entitled to peaceful protest.
“And the Bhomkars were only protesting peacefully. They did not indulge in any violence but were only questioning the authorities,” Adv Tilve said and informed that the notices sent to the Bhomkars will be challenged.
“Today, I got the complaint and a reply would be filed accordingly,” Adv Tilve said while questioning the basis behind the application of Section 107 CrPC as also direction to pay bond of Rs 10,000.
He further informed that the next hearing has been slated for March 18.
Meanwhile, a Bhoma local Rajan Naik has said that the entire exercise appears to be only a means to harass the Bhomkars.
“This is nothing but mere harassment as we have to take leave from our jobs and remain present for the hearings. And for how long this will continue, we do not know,” Naik stated.
