A three-member group of persons made an attempt to rob a person late Saturday night along the busy Aquem road.
While two of the accused persons made good their escape under the cover of darkness, one of the accused was given a sound thrashing by the public, before being handed over to the Margao police.
The accused is presently convalescing at the Hospicio hospital.
The incident occurred when a person was walking home, the trio approached him and threatened to slit his throat if he failed to hand over his valuables. They instilled fear in the victim by saying they had been earlier involved in a jail break.
The victim managed to free himself from the accused persons before raising an alarm.
Margao PI Kapil Nayak said the police has so far registered a non cognizance case, saying the police will act after the discharge of the accused from the hospital.
