The challan issued to one Sahish Naik of Curchorem, who was stopped by the police when he was riding his Royal Enfield nullet without a helmet.
However when he looked at the challan it was written under nature of offence as “riding without seat belt”
The fact came to light after a copy of the challan began circulating via Whatsapp.
Police Inspector of the Agacaim police station Santosh Dessai
however clarified that it was oversight by the challaning officer and not a deliberate mistake.
To his credit, the officer booked the offender under section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deals with wearing of protective headgear.
