Rainfall continued across the state with some areas receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall.
So far Pernem received 12 cm (4.72 inches) of rainfall while Panaji received 9 cm (3.54 inches). Mormugao received 5 cm (1.96 inches), Ponda and Old Goa received 4 cm (1.57 inches) each, Mapusa, Canacona and Dabolim received 3 cm (1.18 inches) each, Sanquelim and Valpoi received 2 cm (0.78 inches) and Sanguem, Margao and Quepem received 1 cm each.
The met department has also issued a weather warning to fishermen saying wind speeds would increase causing the sea to be rough.
“Winds will be southwesterly speed 45- 50 kilometers per hour temporarily/ momentarily reaching 60 kmph in gust/squall. Sea will be rough with the southwesterly waves.
Fishermen are advised not to go out in the sea during the next 24 hours,” said IMD. Goa director M L Sahu.
Temperatures however will remain almost constant, at a maximum of 29 degree celsius and a minimum of 24 degree celsius.
The met department has forecast moderate rain or thundershowers for the next five days over most places in Goa.
The monsoon’s were expected to arrive in the state on Tuesday but a north eastern weather condition caused due to Cyclone Mora had caused the south westerly monsoons to slow down. With a renewed weather condition, the south westerly winds have finally returned and with it brought the onset of the monsoons in the state.
Seasonal rainfall from the pre monsoons has exceeded the normal registering a total of 26.57 cm (10.46 inches). It has caused a departure of 12.06 cm (4.74 inches) from the normal for this time of the year. Temperatures are also cooler for this time of the year. Humidity is at an all time high of 98 percent.
