Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar along with TCP Minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai may officially launch the operations from April 6, sources said.
In fact, the contractor roped in by the GSIDC has installed the heavy machinery for screening of the existing waste and the operations may take off anytime from now.
GSIDC Managing Director, Sanjit Rodrigues, told The Goan that the contractor will first conduct the density test at the Sonsodo site to ascertain the quantum of existing waste lying there. Also, the contractor will try to make space at the site for the dumping of inert material generated during the segregation process. “The actual work of segregation and screening of the waste may start after the survey of the density of the waste is completed. The survey is expected to take off at the site from Tuesday,” Sanjit said, adding that the contractor will try to create some space at the site itself for the storage of compost as well as the inert materials.
He replied in the negative on a question whether the contractor will carry out any test in respect of presence of heavy metal in the waste.
