Congress leader and former North Goa District Congress Committee President Vijay Bhike said it was not right for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to go ga-ga for winning two seats in the Zilla Panchayat by-polls and it should be worried why 54 percent of the voters did not come out to vote in the election.
Bhike also said the BJP used the government machinery and money power to the maximum to achieve their goal in the election to pocket the three seats.
“The BJP does not need to beat the drums and celebrate for winning the three seats. They must remember that only 46 percent of the electorate came out to vote in the election. It shows that people are fed up with the BJP and therefore did not want to come out to vote. Besides, they are in power. They used government machinery and money power to achieve their ends,” Bhike said.
The former North Goa District Congress Committee (NGDCC) chief was addressing the media in presence of Congress leader Elvis Gomes and others in the Mapusa office on Wednesday.
Continuing, Bhike said that Revolutionary Goans Party also contributed to the BJP’s victory in the ZP by-election.
“Then their brother RGP is there who helped them to win those seats,” he said, suggesting that the split in votes by Independents backed by RGP helped the BJP.
He further said that the BJP-led government has failed to provide basic necessities like water to the people of the State and have been tom-toming about victory in elections.
