Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Wednesday sent a protest letter to the Chief Operating Officer of Oman Air for its decision to start operating from the Mopa International Airport from January 1, 2023, instead of using the Dabolim airport.
The Aam Admi Party (AAP) MLA has further called on the opposition MLAs as well as the tourism stakeholders, including the small and medium hoteliers, to form an united front to oppose any move to shut down the Dabolim airport.
Lodging his protest with the Oman Air senior Executive, the Benaulim MLA said the decision of Oman Air will be counter-intuitive to the interests of the operations, interests of its customers as well as that of the people of Goa.
He drew attention of Oman Air to the fact that Mopa airport is located far from tourist centers of Goa, thereby causing a major inconvenience to its customers.
“This would increase the travel cost burden for the incoming travellers. The cost of operations for your airline would also get inflated as the fuel tankers would have to make the long trip from Vasco which is a two way drive of 120 kilometers,” he said.
