A week after the High Court set a time line for the construction of the long-delayed Kabrastan at the acquired land at Sonsodo, BJP Councillor Camilo Barretto on Wednesday requested Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Damu Shirodkar to convene a special meeting of the council to discuss the contentious issue.
The BJP Councilor’s plea for a threadbare discussion on the issue comes just three days after the Cong-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat accepted felicitation from the Muslim community for acquisition of the Kabrastan land at Sonsodo.
In fact, while addressing the Muslim community at the felicitation programme of late Sayed Manzoor Kadri, the petitioner in the High Court, that everyone should now work unitedly to see that the Kabrastan becomes a reality at Sonsodo.
The BJP Councillor was on his feet at a special meeting of the Council convened by the Municipal Chairperson to decide on the constitution of the Municipal Statutory Committees to demand a special meeting of the Council.
Another BJP Councillor, Milagrina Gomes, also remarked that the civic body should have a special meeting to discuss the Kabrastan issue.
Barretto made a plea to the Municipal Chairperson to call for the special meeting to discuss the Kabrastan issue coming up at Sonsodo, saying people from his ward and outside have been questioning him over the manner in which the MMC had presented the case in the High Court.
