The BJP Curtorim Mandal descended at Vagurlem in Maina area of Curtorim village on Thursday to protest against the bad condition of the road and to demand immediate repairs to the road stretch.
Led by BJP ST leader Anthony Barbosa, Dr Sneha Bhagwat and others, the BJP workers demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral issue the necessary instructions to the officials to repair the road before the onset of monsoons.
The BJP Mandal has further demanded to know from Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco why the road has remained neglected for the last 15 years since the time he has been representing Curtorim constituency.
Asserting that light, water and roads are the basic necessities every citizen in the country is entitled for, Barbosa said the Vagurlem road is indeed in a pathetic and dilapidated state. “Two-wheelers constantly run the risk of skidding on the potholed and unmotorable road. It is sad that such a road is existing in Curtorim constituency”, Barbosa stated.
Saying that the PWD officials have promised to take up the road work within 15 days, Barbosa urged the PWD Minister to restore the condition of the road before the onset of monsoons.
Dr Bhagwat said the BJP Curtorim Mandal’s attention was drawn to the bad condition of the road when they visited the constituency to hold a medical camp on the occasion of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s birthday.
"We do not know whether the MLA has not taken up the road repairs since he has not polled the votes of the local populace from the area. Everyone should get the road facility irrespective of political affiliations” she said.
Local residents Narayan Patil and Mahadev Krishna Naik said the road has not been repaired since the last 15 years, saying the local MLA has only handed out assurances which have remained unfulfilled till date.
