The Margao Traffic cell conceded that parking of heavy duty inter-state trucks along the NH66 between Navelim and Cuncolim is illegal.
Officials, however, pointed out that it is not possible for the understaffed Margao Traffic Cell to enforce the parking rules along the highway when the Cell is facing manpower crunch to regulate and enforce traffic in the commercial capital.
In fact, an official pointed out that since a container yard at Balli and the Cuncolim Industrial estate are located along the stretch, the authorities should get the Goa IDC and the Konkan Railway to provide parking amenities to the trucks at the estate.
“This problem of parking by inter state trucks is plaguing the highways. We had recently started a drive at Arlem on the outskirts of Margao to drive away trucks parked along the Arlem-Raia Highway”, informed a traffic cell official.
