BJP takes dig at MLAs for wearing black outfits

PANAJI

Opposition leaders' attempt of embarrassing the government over Mhadei on the first day of the winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday did not go well with the BJP Goa Unit. The party, however, did not leave the opportunity to take a dig at them as the day also marked Goa's Opinion Poll anniversary.

Party spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar said that wearing black outfits by Opposition MLAs exposed the real black sheep who were instrumental to turn the Mhadei water dispute matter against Goa when Congress was in power.

"The Opposition MLAs are running a political agenda instead of genuinely backing the government's efforts to withdraw the DPR. They even boycotted the all-party meeting called by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. However, I want to congratulate them for proving who is the actual black sheep and who were involved in black deeds, by wearing the black outfits for Assembly today," he said while addressing a press conference at party headquarters in Panaji.

Pai also slammed AAP MLA Venzy Viegas for blaming the CM for 'making them a part of the crime by calling for an all-party meeting' last week. "Is it a crime to convey to the Centre that Goa should not face injustice on Mhadei? Is it a crime to support the government's efforts to support Goa's cause to save Mhadei? Viegas and his party should reply," he added.

The party further expressed unhappiness over the venue selected by the Opposition and activists to hold the Save Goa Save Mhadei meeting, stating that "It looks to be a political agenda to hold a meeting in CM's constituency. Why such show of strength on an issue which is concerning the entire State."

Spokesperson Yatish Naik, also present at the briefing, reiterated that Goa government is 'sensitive' and 'spirited' to save Mhadei.
