PANAJI: All BJP ruled states are in the process of coming together to file a joint application before the Supreme Court in a bid to reconsider its order nullifying the state conducted entrance tests to medical and dental colleges.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar while interacting with media persons said, “Our first demand (to allow GCET) has not been allowed. But our second demand that students who answered the first NEET be allowed to answer the second is allowed. This brings relief to students who had to appear for NEET-I with just one or two days notice,” Parsekar said.
NEET phase II will be held on July 24 and Goan students who want to study medicine or dentistry will have to answer NEET. The Goa Common Entrance Test conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education will go ahead as planned and will applied for admissions to engineering colleges in the state as well as other professional degree courses.
The opinion among government circles is that Goa is being made to suffer for the sins of private colleges and other states which have led to the Supreme Court stepping in and ordering a uniform entrance exam.
He however was quick to say that answering GCET was advisable.
“There is no problem if you answer GCET. We are still trying. All BJP ruled states want to have their examinations. We might go back to court. But for now GCET examinations will be through NEET,” Parsekar said.
“Goa has been conducting its GCET exam without any problems for the last ten years. There has not been a single paper leak or any charges of malpractice. The Goan students would be filled up according to the GCET rank and the national students through the AIPMT ranking,” sources in the government said. With the recent Supreme Court ruling, Goan students will now have to familiarise themselves with the CBSE syllabus on which NEET is based. GCET was based on the Goa Board Std XII syllabus.

* If all the schools start at 8am and all the students of the schools end up on that road at that time, there will no doubt be chaos, the Chief Minister said
* The schools will have to reach an agreement among themselves. One should start at 7:30 another at 7:45 and others at 8 and accordingly their closure timings too should be staggered, he said
