In a decision that will give relief to hundreds of SSC and HSSC repeater students, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has decided to declare the result of the repeater
candidates registered for the March-April 2020-21 SSC and HSSC examinations based on internal assessment scheme.
The Board, however, has given an option to the repeater students that pending the declaration of the result based on internal assessment, they can appear for the supplementary examination for HSSC and SSC so that they can avail the benefit of the already scheduled supplementary examination.
In a circular issued to the Heads of all recognized Secondary and Higher Secondary schools within the jurisdiction of the Board, Secretary Geraldina L Mendes stated that the one-time measure has been taken in the backdrop of cancellation of the main examination keeping in mind the safety of examination personnel and candidates.
The heads of institutions have been requested to take steps so as to submit the marks in Option I by August 21 and marks in Option 2 by August 30.
Paying heed to the request made by the repeater candidates that the Board should extend the internal assessment criteria at them, the Board has come out with the two options, one to declare the result of the repeater candidates based on internal assessment and permitting these candidates to appear for the supplementary examinations scheduled later this month.
The Nationalist Congress Party, which had taken up cudgels for the beleaguered repeater students, has expressed its gratitude to the Chairman of the Board.
NCP lawyer, Adv. Suhas Volvoikar thanked the Goa Board Chairman, saying that the Board under his leadership has understood the situation and taken the decision to avoid any injustice to the repeater students.
Addressing the media in the presence of Nuvem NCP block president Franky De Mello, Adv Volvoikar said the Chairman presented the case before the Board and it was decided that result of the unsuccessful students will be decided via the internal assessment mode. He, however, said the Board has come out with an option for those students, who might have not fared well at the internal examination, to answer the supplementary exam scheduled later this month.
He said around 800 students will benefit out of the decision of the Goa Board to declare the results based on internal assessment scheme.
