The Bogmalo Panchayat on Tuesday requested Vasco police to carry out a tenant verification drive in the village.
Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale submitted a letter to Vasco Police Inspector Kapil Nayak requesting for the drive ahead of the peak tourism season and the VVIP movements lined up in the State.
Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale said that Bogmalo was a coastal village with tourism activities.
“We want to ensure that there is no crime or untoward incident during the peak tourism season and we have already taken an exercise ward-wise to call all people and ask them to get their tenants verified compulsorily in coordination with Vasco police.”
“We have now requested the police to carry out a drive to identify people who have not got their tenants verified despite our requests and we also get a fair idea of the people who are living in our village as tenants. We have also requested the police to give us a copy so that the panchayat also has the record of people living in the village as tenants,” said Mahale.
Speaking to reporters Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said the tenant verification was the need of the hour and that the Vasco police would deal with an iron fist on people not having the tenant verification done.
“Tenant verification drive is already being carried out at various locations and has helped us detect a lot of crimes as well. Many landlords rent out rooms without verification and no one knows the antecedent of the tenants or their involvement in any crimes in their native states.”
“During our tenant verification drives, we realised that many have not done their verification and we have already issued them with strict warning to get it done within 2 days and we have got a tremendous response,” said PI Nayak.
“Bogmalo Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale has requested us to carry a similar drive in Bogmalo as many have not done the tenant verification. We request residents of Bogmalo to get the tenant verification immediately because we have VVIP movements and the peak tourism season.”
