Bridge, houses flooded in Sanguem taluka

Bridge, houses flooded in Sanguem taluka

SANGUEM

A bridge was flooded while several houses were inundated as life in Sanguem was severely affected due to heavy rains over the last two days.

With very heavy rains overnight all across the taluka, most of the canals and the bridge at Valshem in Bhati village were submerged under water.

The Valshem bridge is the main access connecting Wadem and Neturlim villages to Sanguem town and other areas. The villagers had to wait for several hours for the water to recede to cross the bridge. Some two-wheeler riders were, however, seen taking a risk to cross the bridge.

The height of the bridge is very low, and the villagers have been demanding an increase in the height of the bridge for the past many years but to no avail

Elsewhere, incidents of water entering residential houses were reported at Uguem and Kuinamol-Sanguem.

Sanguem Mamlatdar Rajesh Sakhalkar visited the house of the Shirodkar family at Kuinamol Sanguem, where rainwater flooded the house. The family have been shifted to a neighbour’s house amid fears their house could collapse as it is made of mud walls.

At Ambdoi, water entered the agricultural plantations of locals after the Sanguem river began to overflow.
