MARGAO

In a daring day-light burglary at Bagbhat-Raia, unknown culprits broke into a residential house located on the busy Gandhi road and decamped with gold ornaments valued around Rs 4-5 lakh.

The incident sent shock waves in the locality as well as in the neigbouring Maina area of Curtorim village as the burglary took place soon after the inmates had left the house for Margao on Saturday morning.

It was at around 11 am that Janet along with her two children had locked the house before catching a bus for Margao. Janet’s mother in law had earlier in the day left for her relative’s place.

When they returned home at around 2 pm, Janet found   that the latch on her door was cut open by unknown miscreants.

Their worst fears came true when Janet found the cupboards in her bedroom and the adjoining room belonging to her mother in law ransacked by the miscreants.

She further realized that the miscreants managed to escape with the booty from her cupboard, consisting of gold ornaments, including a gold chain, a necklace, pairs of earrings, besides cash of Rs 50,000.

Fortunately, the miscreants did not find the gold belonging to the mother in law who had hidden the ornaments in clothes stacked inside the cupboard.

The Maina Curtorim police, who have commenced investigations is scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in an adjoining place. The police are trying to find out whether it was the same person who had casually asked one of the children accompanying their mother whether they are going to Margao.

The incident sent shock waves across both Raia and Maina-Curtorim since the daring day-light burglary has taken place in the house right on the main busy road.
